My favorite photography: The image as speech
Welcome back to this blog in english. This time I will tell you about one of my favorite photographs and my experience with photography.
The image they are seeing here was taken in the city of Prague (located in Czechoslovakia at the time) in the year 1968 by the Czech / French photographer Josef Koudelka during the invasion of the forces of the Warsaw Pact to the previously named city. In which we can see a young man opening his jacket and challenging the military to shoot him in the chest, pointing out that he is an innocent civilian who is demonstrating peacefully before this invasion. In this photograph we can see a clear example of the saying "you hit me, but I respond to you with flowers", making him feel to the repressive force that his violence is unnecessary.
This powerful photograph was taken, as I said before, by the Czech / French photographer Josef Koudelka, but who is this man ?, born in the Moravian region located in the already dissolved Czechoslovakia, Koudelka was a photographer who discovered his passion and Talent at a late age in the height of revolutions around the world. Motivated by the photographer Jiri Jenicek, Koudelka in 1960 leaves his work as an engineer and begins to dedicate one hundred percent to the photograph, portraying the life in the theaters to later make a long and wonderful record of 6 years on the life of the gypsies. It is here, at the end of his great journey, when he arrives in Prague a few days before the invasion of Czechoslovakia begins on the part of the Warsaw Pact army, where he captures the terror, violence and repression that occurs in the streets of said City at the hands of the military. Due to this process of revolution in the country he decides to leave Czechoslovakia by which he becomes a "stateless person" during the decade of the seventies, reason why it is necessary to go looking for luck to France and to England. Once the eighties begins is invited by the photographer Elliot Erwin to join the prestigious association Magnun Photos. From then on, he has only won triumphs and recognitions as one of the photographers who portrays reality with great emotionality and who manages to portray him in an image.
This next part will be shorter, so do not despair. Well, my relationship with photography is born long before my passion for cinema, and that is what I study today. Since I was a kid, I really like drawing, portraying people in general, so I realized that I liked seeing things that have a subjective emotionality, looks, faces, gestures, all those things that people do not see me They called attention, so I thought the best way to capture them would be through a camera because for me it's like a drawing but more done faster. Since that time I have been developing my subjective self-more and showing people that through the image can deliver a speech or an idea, of any kind, and that this can generate a critical thinking in people, even Minimum, but something is something and is better than nothing and be mentally stagnant.
That's all for this edition, and we'll see in the next edition of this blog in english. Bye!
